Special Elections

HD 64 (Tampa) – The Florida House rejected the results of the general election in HD 64 because there were conflicting legal opinions as to whether or not a write-in candidate had been wrongly withdrawn from the race.  Governor Scott called for a special primary election for February 10, 2015 and a special election to be held on April 21, 2015.

SD 6 (St. Augustine) – Senator John Thrasher, who easily won his reelection bid, resigned his seat to begin his tenure as president of Florida State University. This has caused a domino effect with two recently reelected House members resigning their seats to vie for the now vacant Senate seat. Representative “Doc” Renuart (R-Ponte Vedra Beach) and Travis Hutson (R-Palm Coast) will be running against each other in the Republican primary election on January 27, 2015. The winner will face Democrat David Cox in the general election on April 7, 2015.

HD 17 (Ponte Vedra Beach) and HD 24 (Palm Coast) – Special elections will be held for these vacated seats.  In House District 17, Republicans John Capra, Mike Davis and Cyndi Stevenson will face off in the primary. The winner will run against write-in candidate Mary Ann Boczek and NPA candidate Judy Stevens. Republicans Danielle Anderson, Ron Sanchez, Paul Renner and Sheamus McNeeley will run against each other in the primary for HD 24. The winner will face Democrat Adam Morley in the general election. The primary elections for both seats will take place on January 27, 2015 and the general elections on April 7, 2015.

HD 13 (Jacksonville) – Former Representative Reggie Fullwood (D-Jacksonville) beat  Democrat Johnny Gaffney  in the primary on December 16, 2014. Fullwood will face Republican Lawrence “Jeff” Jefferson in the general election on February 17, 2015.
