Special Election

Special Election A general election was held on December 5th to fill House District 116 in Miami-Dade County, which was vacated by former representative Juan Fernandez-Barquin (R-Miami). Republican Mike Redondo won the election with 51.8 percent of the vote, beating Democrat Johnny Gonzalo Farias who garnered 45.63 percent and NPA candidate Frank De La Paz who received 2.57 percent. Questions about the newly elected representative’s residency have arisen as he recently secured a mortgage for a condominium outside his district.
