October Movers and Shakers

Governor Rick Scott recently announced several staff changes in his office.

  • Brian Burgess left his position as Communications Director to head the media relations and communications efforts at the Republican Party of Florida. Melissa Sellers replaced Burgess. Sellers most recently served as the Director of Regional Media for the Republican National Convention in Tampa this summer and as communications director for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
  • Lane Wright left his position as press secretary to begin work at the Agency for Persons with Disabilities as Director of Strategic Outreach. Jackie Schutz will be his replacement. Schutz has been serving as Deputy Press Secretary.
  • Jon Costello, the Governor’s top lobbyist for the past two years, has left and is rejoining his old Tallahassee lobbying firm. Angela Peterson will replace him. Peterson has been working in the Legislative Affairs Office for the Governor with Costello.

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced in late-August that Timothy Osterhaus has been named Florida Solicitor General, the state’s top appellate lawyer. Osterhaus has served as the Deputy Solicitor General since 2007. Former Solicitor General Scott Makar was appointed earlier this year to a spot on the First District Court of Appeal.
