FDLE AND DEP At its August 5th meeting, the Florida Cabinet approved the appointments of Rick Swearingen as Commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Jon Steverson as Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection.
ENTERPRISE FLORIDA Representative Jim Boyd (R-Bradenton) has joined the board of Enterprise Florida.
FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL Gene Spaulding has been named director of the FHP. Spaulding has worked in law enforcement for 22 years, most recently serving as commander of the patrol’s Troop G.
UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA The state university system’s Board of Governors unanimously confirmed the reappointment of Judith Bense as president of the University of West Florida.
COUNCIL OF PRESIDENTS OF THE FLORIDA COLLEGE SYSTEM Carol Probstfeld, president of the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, has been elected chairwoman of the Council.
REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE The RNC has added three new staffers, all from Florida: Brian Barrett, state director; Alex Garcia, deputy state director and director of Hispanic initiatives; and Ben Shankle, data director. Barrett previously served as the RNC Victory Directory for the State of Georgia. Garcia was an aide to Senator Anitere Flores and Representative Michael Bileca. Shankle worked as an attorney for the Florida Senate.
