From the Capitol

The campaign season is in full swing with the largest field of local, state and federal candidates on the ballot in many years.  Some of the increase is attributable to the effects of the Fair Districts amendment, which redrew the congressional and Senate districts leading to all seats being open. Judicial, state attorney and public defender candidates had to file their intent to run for office by May 6th and legislative candidates had to file by June 24th.

Several members of the Florida Senate and Florida House of Representatives retained their seats, having no opposition. Nine senators and twenty-six representatives will be returning as incumbents. Three new members were elected to the Senate and four to the House without opposition.

Congratulations to the following members in the Senate:

Senator Aaron Bean (R-Jacksonville) Senator Denise Grimsley (R-Sebring)
