Free Kill Law This proposal would remove the current provision that prohibits adult children and parents of adult children from recovering certain damages in medical negligence suits.

Cassie’s Law These would make every sheriff’s office in the state a safe location for parents to swap custody of their kids. Current law allows many swap locations which are not necessarily safe.

Drunk Drivers Several bills address drunk driving, which resulted in the deaths of 427 Floridians in 2022. Proposals include requiring people convicted of DUI who kill a child’s parent or guardian to pay child support and require ignition interlocks, a version of breathalyzers for vehicles, for drivers who refuse a breath test.

Invasive Species These bills would expand the existing law by banning all iguana species. Also included is the prohibition of the sale of dogs and cats by pet shops.

Animal Attorneys These bills would authorize a volunteer attorney, certified emeritus attorney or certified legal intern to be designated to act as an advocate in criminal cases of neglect or abuse involving a dog or cat.

Right to Rock Act Entertainment venues that accept state funding would not be able to break contracts with performers based on their social media use or political affiliations under this filed bill.

Abortion Several bills have been filed dealing with abortion. They include clarifying that penalties related to an illegal abortion would not apply to the person getting the procedure; banning abortion after 12-weeks; and a prohibition involving protests within 150 feet of a healthcare facility.

Red Light Cameras A proposal to outright ban red light cameras throughout the state has been filed in both chambers.

National Popular Vote Compact A representative has filed a bill requiring Florida to join the National Popular Vote Compact. The Compact is an agreement among states where those electoral votes would go to the winner of the most votes nationwide, regardless of who won in that state.Live Healthy In addition to the above filed bills, Senate President Passidomo has proposed legislation that would address healthcare. She is focused on a package of proposals which promise to “grow Florida’s health care workforce, increase access, and incentivize innovation.” The proposal is a multi-layered program involving many aspects of the healthcare spectrum. A detailed outline can be found here.
