Left Hand Lane Drivers The bill would set noncriminal fines of up to $158 for using the left lane unless drivers are attempting to pass other motorists. However, it would provide several exceptions, such as when motorists are directed to use certain lanes or to drive around obstructions.

Electric & Hybrid License Fees The Senate bill would increase the annual fees required for electric ($200 to $250) and hybrid vehicles ($50 to $100) beginning January 1, 2029. Sixty-four percent of the proceeds would be deposited into the State Transportation Trust Fund, and thirty-six percent must be allocated to the county where the vehicle is registered. Local governments can use these funds for transportation expenditures. The House bill was amended in its first committee hearing and it differs somewhat from the Senate version; a vote was not taken.

Specialty License Tags There are several proposals for new specialty license plates. They include General Aviation, Project Addiction: Reversing the Stigma, Margaritaville, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, United Service Organizations, Cure Diabetes, The Villages: May All Your Dreams Come True, Recycle Florida, and Boating Capital of the World.

Jimmy Buffet Recognition Highway A1A would be designated the “Jimmy Buffet Memorial Highway”.

Transportation These would impose a 20 percent cap on spending from state transportation trust fund revenues for most public transit projects and prohibit the creation of new metropolitan planning organizations.
