Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday

Today, April 13th, is the 272nd anniversary of the birth of our Country’s ideological founder and third President, Thomas Jefferson.  Mr. Jefferson, as historians have come to call him, accomplished much during his lifetime.  In addition to such well known achievements such as the writer of our Declaration of Independence and founder of the University of Virginia; he was also the foremost architect of his time, our country’s first foodie, an agriculturalist, an astronomer, a paleontologist, and one of the most inquisitive men of history.  His legacy may best be summed up by a President John Kennedy quote made while hosting a White House dinner for Nobel Prize winners.  Kennedy said, “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”
