DISNEY FLORIDA LAWSUIT The new governing board overseeing Disney (Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) filed a lawsuit in a Florida court challenging Disney’s claim that the takeover was illegal. The state judge on Friday denied Disney’s attempt to dismiss or stay the case filed against it by the Governor DeSantis-appointed tourism board.

EXECUTION A convicted double murder and sexual assault inmate was executed in Florida on August 3rd. The execution occurred after the inmate won a court ruling where he was allowed to fire his attorneys and dismiss all legal proceedings in order to go straight to execution. 

HOT CHICKEN MCNUGGET A jury has awarded a young girl $800,000 over burns sustained while eating an overly hot chicken McNugget from a happy meal. The girl suffered second-degree burns.

COVID-19 REMEDY A Florida jury found four men, a father and three sons, guilty of conspiring to illegally distribute a liquid made with industrial bleach. The men claimed the mixture as a cure for COVID-19 in what prosecutors described as a scam to make money using a fake online church. ATTORNEY SHORTAGES Public defender and state attorney offices throughout Florida have been struggling to attract new talent, in part because of a high cost of living and low salaries.
