AFRICAN LAND SNAILS The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced that over 168,000 of the invasive African land snails have been eliminated since they were first spotted in 2011. In August, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service removed giant African land snail from the list of quarantined areas in Miami-Dade County, a good sign that the fight to eliminate them once and for all may be nearing the end.

ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT As of October 1st, parking at the Orlando International Airport will get pricier. Rates will go from $17 a day to $19 a day in the A and B garages, while the C garage is increasing from $15 to $17. Waiting in the cell phone lot will remain free and parking in the economy lots remains the same at $10 per-day. This is the first rate increase in nearly a decade.

FALL FUN The Florida Agritourism Association launched a mobile app highlighting their member farms, just in time for visitors to find a fall festival, pumpkin patch or corn maze. You may download the app by going here for an Android or here for iPhone/iPad.

BEARDS Florida’s largest grocery store chain Publix announced that in-store employees can now sport beards. The new policy went into effect on September 29th. A petition was started by Publix employees three years ago and gathered 20,000 signatures.
