SEAWEED BLOB The giant blob of seaweed continues heading to Florida, washing up on shore and smelling like rotten eggs. The seaweed is home to tiny creatures that may irritate skin and the smell from the hydrogen sulfide it releases may trigger throat irritation and asthma reactions. The good news is the blob has shrunk by 75 percent since June, though researchers are not sure why. They expect the seaweed to continue washing up on shore through August.

BURMESE PYTHON A 13-foot, 9-inch female Burmese python and her nest of 111 eggs was removed from the Big Cypress Nature Preserve, near Naples, on July 7th. This was the largest snake nest found in Florida history. The Florida Python Challenge is a 10-day python hunt that started on Friday, August 4th and will finish at 5pm on August 13th.
