FSU SOCCER The Florida State University women’s soccer team came home from Santa Clara, California with their third national championship on December 6th. A scoreless game, they won on the last penalty kick to secure the win against Brigham Young University. Go Lady Noles!
MASK FINES The Florida Department of Education returned over $875,000 in state funding to eight school districts that had defied a state order on mask mandates. The state had punished the districts by withholding amounts of money equal to school board members’ salaries. The money includes more than $500,000 to Broward County.
FREE BOOKS Florida will begin delivering free books this month to students reading below grade level. The initiative was grounded in legislation passed last year and is aimed to improve childhood literacy. A total of nine books will be sent to students during the school year. POLK STATE COLLEGE Students who were enrolled in Polk State College between March 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021 are eligible for $1.2 million of student debt forgiveness. The school is using Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds to cover the debt.
