In Memoriam

Al Gutman Former Republican State Senator Al Gutman, of Miami, died February 16th. Born in Havana, Cuba, Gutman served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1984-1992 and in the Senate from 1992-1999. He plead guilty to Medicaid fraud in 1992 and was sentenced to five years in federal prison. Gutman, who was 60 years old, is survived by two daughters.

Lori Wilson Former Senator and Brevard County Commissioner Lori Wilson died on January 30th in Indian Harbour Beach. In 1969, she was appointed by Governor Claude Kirk to fill a vacancy on the Brevard County Commission. She was elected to a full term on the commission in 1970, serving as chair in 1972. She then was elected to the Florida Senate and served until 1978. She received national attention as the main advocate of Florida ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment. Wilson was 81.

Tom Warner Former Representative Tom Warner died January 11th after a long battle with cancer. Warner was the city attorney for Stuart, Florida from 1984-1988 and served as a Republican in the Florida House from 1992-1999. Warner was the State’s first solicitor general, appointed by Attorney General Bob Butterworth from 1999-2002. He was 70.
