GREENHOUSE GASES Florida joined with other states to file a lawsuit against the federal government regarding the calculations of the social costs of greenhouse gas emissions. The U.S. Fifth Circuit of Appeals rejected the claim that the states are suffering under the Biden administration’s calculations of the social cost. The court panel found the states could only point to a “chain of hypotheticals” to prove an injury.

CNN DEFAMATION REJECTED A Florida federal judge has ruled that the news organization CNN did not act with reckless disregard for the truth in covering attorney Alan Dershowitz’s defense of then-President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial. A trial was scheduled for May, but has now been cancelled. Dershowitz sought $300 million in damages.

UNDER 21 GUN SALES A U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals panel has upheld a Florida law that banned the sale of firearms by people under 21 but allowed possession of firearms. The judged stated the law is consistent with the Second Amendment because it conforms with a longstanding tradition of regulations imposed on gun buyers.
