GOLF CLUB MEMBER SETTLEMENT A U.S. District Court judge has been asked by a class of former members of the Jupiter Golf Club to approve a $5.4 million settlement. The plaintiffs filed suit when the club was taken over by the Trump Organization in 2012 and the new ownership refused to reimburse deposits.
OPEN MEETING VIOLATION A panel of 2nd District Court of Appeal judges have ruled that the St. Petersburg City Council violated the state’s open-meetings law in 2011. During a closed meeting to discuss unrelated pending litigation, the Council members discussed proposed changes to an ordinance regarding the homeless.
CHILDREN’S MEDICAL SERVICES The 3rd District Court of Appeal has ruled in favor of the Florida Department of Health in denying the request of an unidentified minor to repeal a rule related to pediatric-cardiology services standards. The majority of the judges ruled the child did not have standing and dismissed the case.
JURY AWARD A Martin County Circuit Court jury has found in favor of a rock mine company and awarded it $4.3 million. The money is owed by environmentalist Maggy Hurchalla who had worked illegally, according to the jury, to stop the rock mine once it had secured the necessary permits.
CERTIFICATE OF NEED APPEAL Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children is appealing a decision by the Agency for Health Care Administration to reject the creation of a pediatric heart-transplant program. The hospital states there is no such program within the designated organ transplant service area.
24 HOUR WAITING PERIOD The State is appealing a circuit court judge’s ruling which permanently blocked enforcement of a law that requires women to wait 24 hours after an initial doctor’s visit before obtaining an abortion.
